Catchers will learn critical skills including:

  • How to give signs (including tips to prevent another team from stealing that information)
  • How to set-up and receive (framing doesn’t mean taking balls and moving them back into the strike zone, but taking strikes and keeping them in the strike zone)!
  • Blocking balls in the dirt
  • Throwing to all bases (with the emphasis and a quick, strong, and accurate release) – including many simple throwing drills you can do in warm-ups to work on this
  • Catching foul pop-ups
  • Back-up responsibilities, along with which play you are responsible for covering 3rd base
  • When to throw “trail” runner on a double steal, and how to communicate that with your middle infielders so they know to cover 2nd base
