Pitchers will learn both the physical and mental skills necessary to maximize their effectiveness on the mound. This includes not only pitcher to hitter mechanics, but also
how to disrupt an aggressive baserunning team, and how to keep your defense in the game by working quickly. The following are all skills pitchers will learn through the Carolina Elite Baseball program:
Former ECU pitcher Sam Narron
Pitching Mechanics (the different components to both the windup and stretch deliveries)
Although this program does not allow players under the age of 16 to throw curve balls, players will learn the many different types of fastballs (4-seam, 2-seam, cutter, BP, etc.), and what makes them effective
The three ways a pitcher can disrupt a potential baserunner’s ability to steal successfully
How to find out if another team may be attempting to bunt a runner over without having to throw a pitch
Pitch-calling, and the many things that may impact how you attack a hitter (hitter’s weakness, pitcher’s strength, ballpark dimensions, weather conditions, score of game, runners on base, catcher’s skill level, do you have a base open and a walk won’t hurt you, should you pitch for the strikeout, because most contact will score a runner from 3rd)
The importance of working quickly, and how it impacts not only your defense, but the other team’s offense as well
