Understanding how to play defense within a team concept is one of the many benefits to becoming an active member of a Carolina Elite Baseball team.  Team practices, individual instruction, and baseball camps/clinics will help increase your physical skills.  That is only part of the process to becoming a better baseball player, however! Actual game experience under quality coaching is the only way to learn critical team skills, both offensively and defensively.  Those members who join under the team membership plan will learn these invaluable team defensive skills including:

Bunt Defenses

  • Nobody on Base

  • Runner on 1st

  • Runner on 2nd (or 1st and 2nd)

  • Bunt Trap/Lead Runner (called the "wheel")

  • Wheel Pick (and why this play works even if you don't pick the runner off!!!)

Outfield throwing responsibilities

  • When outfielders don't need to hit their cutoff man

Cutoffs/Relays

  • Which infielders are responsible for the different cutoffs and relays

  • What is a tandem/double cut, and when/why do you use it
